EVART - It's just a few months before the cross country season begins, and Evart's Sophia Scott is getting ready as one of the Wildcats' top returning runners.

She's also coming off the disappointment of not having a junior track and field season.

If there had been a season this year, Scott would have run the 3,200-meter, the 1.600-meter and the 4x8 relay. She points to the 3,200 mile as her best race. A goal in this event would have been all-Highland Conference honors. Scott had a PR of 13:25.04 last season, and would not have minded bettering that this season, had there been one.

She also likes the 1,600-meter run. Scott had a personal record of 6:09.23 last season. But she prefers the 3,200. She's a quality cross country runner for the Wildcats during the fall. Her personal record came in the 2019 regional with a 21:42.5.

Scott had high hopes for the 2020 squad.

"I think we would have had done pretty good this year, we had a good group," Scott said, adding when she found out there would not be a season, "I was kind of mad and disappointed and sad. I'm still running to keep up for cross country."

Scott estimates she puts in between 30 to 40 running miles per week. She's hoping the fall cross country squad will be strong.

"We only lost one senior this year," she said. "I think we'll be pretty good."
