Evart prepares for McBain
EVART – Evart football coach Pat Craven liked how his team performed against Houghton Lake on Friday in a first-round district game.
Now the Wildcats are ready for McBain in Friday’s road district semifinal game.
“The kids did a nice job of fighting through some adversity and grinding out a win when they didn't play their best game,” Craven said. “McBain is a perennial power in our league. We know them well. They are well coached and have an outstanding offensive line. They are a tough matchup for us and we are excited for the opportunity to compete again against them. They are huge.
“We will need to play really well and find ways to control possession of the football. We will need to turn them over and gain extra offensive possessions. Our team is playing with a lot of confidence right now. We know we can play better than our first outing against McBain. We are excited for the opportunity to compete.
As for injuries, “We are as healthy as could be expected for this time of the year. We haven't had three weeks off, that's for sure,” Craven said. “Danny Witbeck, Bryant Calderon, Reese Ransom, Kamrin Grein, and Brayden Cass are all playing at a very high level right now. Our team is well-rounded and plays hard for each other. This is a fun group to coach and spend time with.”
