EVART — Tina Fournier is on the varsity her first season for Evart’s girls basketball team and is making the challenging transition from the JV team.

Fournier has been starting point guard for the Wildcats their first two games. She played at another school as a freshman but for the Evart JVs lat season. She has also payed point guard on the JV level.

Evart entered this week at 0-2.

“It’s been going good,” Fournier said. “We’ve been playing really good defense. We’re trying to set up our offense. We need to get everybody set up in the right position, knowing where they’re supposed to go.”

Fournier has been working to bring the ball up and pass. She’s been focusing on the pressbreak.

“It’s been all right  but there’s things we need to work on,” she said.

Shooting hasn’t been a main role for Fournier but she has been working to put up shots inside. She expected running to be an emphasis of future practice to help get the team in shape.

“Running the offense and playing good defense will be key for upcoming games. I’m pretty comfortable. There’s things I’m not used to like speed of the game is faster than on the JVs. The more games, the more we’ll probably improve.”

Evart played its first game without sophomore starter Mara VanOrder who then played the second game. Having VanOrder in the lineup makes a big difference, Fournier said.

“Mara is is one of the main girls we have on the court,” she said.
