BIG RAPIDS — Crossroads and Evart volleyball teams both ran into stiff competition at Saturday’s ninth annual Cougar Volleyball Invitational and failed to make it out of pool play.

Crossroads split with all three of its opponents; 20-25, 25-23 to Vestaburg, 18-25, 25-23 to Oscoda and 27-27, 25-20 to Evart.

Along with its split to Crossroads, the Wildcats lost to Vestaburg 25-18, 25-12, and to Oscoda 25-13, 25-21.

Crossroads is 3-8-6 overall.

Evart’s lineup consisted of seniors Natalie O’Dell, Sierra Barnett and Cyanna Deller, juniors Felicia Nelson, Angel Porter, Hannah Wetters and McKenzie Kimball, sophomores Kaylee Ladd and Livia Hopkins and freshman Kara Henry.

“We fought well,” Kimball said. “We had good communication the first game we played, then we needed to pick it up again. But we fought well.”

It was Evart’s second tournament of the season.

“(Tournaments) are good for us,” Kimball said. “We don’t like having long breaks in between. We had a long break today. We struggled with that.”

“We did good on our communication but we could have done better with our second game,” Barnett said.

Evart was at Marion on Tuesday, and is home with Beal City next Tuesday.
