Evart players earn all-league honors

EVART — Several players from Evart earned all-Highland Conference honors for baseball and softball this season.

For Evart baseball, Andrew Race and Jake McKinstry were on the first team and Jarred Pattee on the honorable mention list

The girls team at Evart had Sam Bressler, a pitcher on first team and Sabrina McKay, and on the honorable mention list.

Evart baseball coach Pat Craven said McKinstry was a senior utility player.

“Jake went into the season as our starting first baseman but moved to catcher after a week into the season,” said Craven.  He caught, played third base and pitched for us. He batted .361, leading our team in hitting. Jake was a leader of our team and worked well with our pitching staff and our young players.” Race was a junior pitcher

“Andrew was our ace,” Craven said. “He pitched in 11 games, throwing 60 innings. He had 80 strikeouts,  24 walks and a 4.09 ERA. He had 16 and 15 strikeouts in two league games this year.”

Race was 5-5 with one save.

Pattee hit .275 was the No. 2 pitcher for the Wildcats and also played shortstop.

Craven’s team finished 10-16 in his first season.

“We were young and very  inexperienced,” he said. “I was pleased with how we came along defensively. We return a lot of our pitching.”
