EVART — Evart’s softball team will be preparing for district action Saturday at Lakeview with hopes for one of its strongest performances of the season.

Sam Bressler has been firing pitches as the starter for Evart as the Wildcats continue to battle for victories, having completed their Highland Conference schedule.

Late in the season Bressler likes the progress she’s been making.

“I’ve been a lot more accurate,” she said. “I’ve been working to try to strike them out. But they hit it. I think I have improved....probably more accurately.

“We’ve been working on hitting. Our new girls have improved a lot.”

The key is for the defense to make the easy plays and “to hit the ball,” Bressler said.

“Sam is pitching great. She pitches like she’s supposed to,” said Evart coach Tracy Gray.

Andrew Race continues to have a strong season for Evart on the mound.

“I’m pitching pretty good, {Race said. “Against Marion, I had about like 21 strikeouts. I am placing the ball pretty well in the strike zone.”

Race also pitched last season. ”I’ve improved a lot. I’m throwing it more smartly and a lot faster,” he said.

Race is anxious to see how the Wildcats will handle the final weeks of the season.

“We want to go to districts and win districts,” he said. “It will take good defense and power hitting.”
