EVART – Addy Gray is coming off an impressive softball season for Evart’s Highland Conference and district championship teams.

But it’s going to be a busy summer for Gray, who is involved in travel softball, volleyball and travel basketball.

For the 2021 season, Gray had impressive statistics.

She had a .478 batting average, 43 hits, 21 RBIs, one home run, 15 stolen bases and pitched 117 innings, was 17-3 and had 178 strikeouts and a 2.378 ERA.

“She is a great all-round player,” Evart coach Amanda Brown said. “She is left-handed and can not only pitch but is one heck of a shortstop. She is a hard working, team leader that has a love of the game. She played travel ball all summer all over the state.”

Gray mentioned a game against McBain in the district was perhaps her best contest.

“Moving the ball was definitely a main key for me,” she said. “Knowing I have to pitch good makes me want to work the ball more.”

Gray was happy with her hitting this season.

“You have to keep your eye on it and know you have your team behind you picking you up,” Gray said.

It was Evart’s first district win in 18 years.

“It was really fun, knowing we hadn’t won it in awhile,” Gray said.

She was set to play travel basketball with Real from Mount Pleasant and the Michigan Expos. She said she likes basketball and softball equally and eventually will have to chose on which of the two sports she may want to pursue.
