Evart pitcher-infielder having productive summer
EVART — Trevin Ladd showed excellent promise as a freshman for Evart’s baseball team during the spring.
Now it’s summer and Ladd has been putting time on the baseball diamond to get ready for his sophomore season in 2015.
“I think it went good,” Ladd said of his freshman season. “It was definitely a learning experience.”
Ladd saw action at pitcher and shortstop during the spring season and has also been at those spots during the summer.
“I need to work on a little more control on pitching, and I think I batted really well for being a freshman,” Ladd said, adding that he’s continuing to work on his control during the summer months.
His hitting this summer “is not as good as it’s been during the season,” Ladd said, noting he was able to adjust effectively to varsity pitching. But he wants to focus on hitting the curveball.
“It think it’s very important to come out here and get reps,” Ladd said.
He’s also doing football and basketball during the summer.
“It’s time consuming, just finding a schedule,” he said.
Ladd will be among the key returning players for the 2015 baseball squad.
“I think we’re going to be pretty solid,” he said. “I think we can win districts.”
Ladd and other younger players, because of no JV team, had a chance to get in some varsity experience last spring. That factor, he’s hoping, will make the Wildcats very competitive next season.
