Evart opens home season Wednesday against McBain

EVART  — Evart opened its boys basketball season on Dec. 5 with a 53-46 non-league win over Forest Area.

The Wildcats, coming off a six-win season last year, will open the Highland Conference schedule at home on Dec. 14 against McBain.

In the win over Forest Area, Evart was down 9-5 after the first quarter. By halftime, the Wildcats were back in the lead.

“It was a very close game,” Evart coach Kris Morgan said. “We didn’t shoot pretty good and turned the ball over too much.”

Danny Griffin scored 26 points for Evart, while Karsten Allen added eight points. Trevin Ladd had seven points and eight rebounds. Nick Sylvester had eight boards.

Along with McBain, Evart plays at McBain Northern Michigan Christian on Friday night in another league game. Morgan expects tough challenges from both teams.

“McBain is 2-0 and has two pretty good wins in Traverse City St. Francis and Benzie Central,” Morgan said. “They’re coming off a good week. Everytime you play McBain, it’s going to be a handful. They’re a well-coached team and know what they’re doing.”

After this week’s games, Evart will be off until Jan. 5 when it plays at Beal City.
