Evart long jumper set for strong season

EVART  — Dillon Danley is looking to score points in the long jump, 200 dash and 4x200 relay and 4x100 relay this season.

“With all the relays we have, I think we can go really far like we did last year,” he said.

His long jump is his best individual event and Danley, a junior has been pointing at a 19-5 this season. “I just have to work hard, run, take care of myself,” he said. “I’m working on my explosion. If I can get that down, that will be good.”

The 4x200 relay has good potential, Danley indicated.

“I think we’ll qualify for state,” he said. “We lost two guys from that (last season).”

In mid-April Danley noted that the Wildcats had plenty of work to do. Two weeks later, with more meet experience under their belts, Evart is looking to be at its best as conference and regional meets draw closer.

“We’re going to qualify for state and give it a run for their money,” Danley said, pointing to the MITCA team meet, which the Wildcats won in 2012 and 2013.

Evart is at the Alma Invitational Saturday and at the regionals May 15 or 16 at Breckenridge. The league meet is May 19 at Marion.
