Evart junior hitter eyes more improvement
EVART — Evart was 1-5 in pool play recently at the Crossroads Invitational, then lost 2-0 to Baldwin in the Silver Bracket.
But players see progress being made
“I think today, we definitely have improved since the last few times we have played in a tournament, especially from last year,” junior Danielle Conklin said. “We are 16 steps up. We definitely need work, but we’re talking more and communicating more.”
The offense is making progress, she indicated.
“We’re improving so much more on offense,” Conklin said. “Our hitting is great. Our serving, definitely, too.”
She plays in various positions.
“Usually if I’m middle, I don’t play back row,” Conklin said, adding that serving has been a strength. “I have like a down ball serve. It’s hard and it goes straight down, straight over the net.”
Conklin also played last season for the Evart varsity team.
“I think I have improved a lot from last year,” she said. “Last year, I wasn’t confident. I didn’t do what I was supposed to do. This year, I know what I’m supposed to do. I’ve worked at it. I’ve practiced.”
She wants to improve on her hitting, especially doing it harder and more consistent.
