EVART — Clairese Clark is giving Evart’s cross country team some strong performances in her junior season.

Clark and Mara VanOrder have been going one-two for the Wildcats so far this season. Clark has run cross country five years and it’s her third season in high school.

Looking back, Clark has been happy with her previous varsity seasons. She struggled with injuries last year, but has bounced back to good health this season.

“I hope to get (lower times),” she said. “It’s all right. I’ve already been in 23 minutes. It’s looking good.”

Clark wasn’t able to fit running into her summer schedule, but felt good coming into the season.

“The second mile,” has been a key part of her race, she said. “The third mile is when I start to lose it.”

That’s the part where she obviously has been focusing in on making improvements.

The Wildcats have under five runners so far this season and aren’t running for team scores. But they’re still going for individual times and possible honors at conference and regional meets.

Recently, Clark finished in front of VanOrder, a few days later at Sparta.

“Mara and I have been pushing each other,” Clark said.
