EVART - Area athletes worked out this summer in hopes of having a fall sports season, which opened the week of Aug. 10.
Players like Sam Bailey, a junior, is in wrestling and football. He's been involved in conditioning sessions for Evart athletes during the summer.
Last season, Bailey was on the Evart varsity football team as a sophomore.
"I was usually almost always on the field for defense," he said. "I hope to be really good and get tons of tackles. I got a bunch last year."
Bailey was one match away from qualifying for the state finals in wrestling.
Ever since sports were canceled in the spring, Bailey has tried to stay active to get ready for the fall.
"I wanted to lift but I actually got really sick with mono and pneumonia," he said. "I was in the hospital a long time for that. I'm not quite back to 100 percent yet."
Bailey has been putting in as much work as he can along with all other athletes.
"I definitely want to get in the weight room and get stronger," he said.
The state has not yet lifted restrictions opening indoor weight rooms in this area. The MHSAA has also moved football to the spring because of COVID 19. Bailey is looking to play defensive end and offensive tackle or guard for Evart's football team next spring.
"I look to be quick and explosive," Bailey said.
