EVART – Evart’s girls basketball team is coming off an impressive 45-39 season-opening victory over Reed City on Tuesday, Dec. 7, and Wildcats like junior Brianna Cass are hoping the good times will continue.

It’s her second year of varsity basketball.

“Our Lake City game was pretty intense,” Cass said. “I think that was our best all-around game. So was the home game with Manton.”

Her role this season will “hopefully be keeping the team positive and give it a lot of energy,” Cass said. “I’ll be point and guard.”

Ball handling will be a strength along with shooting from the corner, Cass said.

Players like Cass put in a lot of basketball time during the offseason and is hoping this pays off during the winter.

“I’ve improved a lot from last year,” she said. “I think we’ll get better throughout the season. Hopefully we’ll have quickness and can get up and down the court.”

Cass is also on the Evart track team and does sideline cheer.

Basketball is her favorite sport.

Evart was scheduled to be home on Thursday against Manton but the game was postponed for undisclosed reasons.

The next scheduled game is Wednesday at home with McBain.

The final game prior to Christmas break is at Pine River on Dec. 17.
