EVART — Evart is hoping the home field plays to its advantage when the Wildcats host the district tournament on Saturday for softball and baseball.

The Wildcats will be scrimmaging at Farwell on Wednesday and then play the winner of McBain-Lake City in a semifinal district game on Saturday.

In baseball, Evart swept both McBain and Lake City during the regular season in Highland Conference play.

“When we beat Lake City, they didn’t have their No. 4 hitter, he was sitting both games,” said Evart baseball coach George Sims. “We didn’t have Tyler Wirth against Lake City. We played them two days after he broke his foot. We’re hoping it will be healed by football. I did have Tyler for McBain and we won both games.”

Evart is 14-7 in baseball.

The Wildcats softball team also will be off until Saturday when they play at home against Lake City or McBain in district action.

“I think it’s wide open,” said Evart coach Josh Johnson. “It comes down to who pitches well and plays good defense on that day.”

Evart is 16-9 in softball action.
