Evart hosting cross country invitational on Saturday

EVART — Evart will be hosting its annual invitational on Saturday at Spring Hill Camp.

The boys will run at 10 a.m. and the girls at 10:45 a.m. The middle school race is at 11:15 a.m., followed by the elementary school-aged run.

“Bear Lake and Kent City are going to be there,” Evart coach Kevin Mills said of some contending teams. “Manton has been doing real well and will be there. It will be tough. We’ll have to work hard to win or place high.”

Evart was fifth among 14 boys teams in the Silver Division at Saturday’s Sparta Invitational.

Grand Rapids Covenant Christian was first at 69 points. Evart was fifth with 98.

For Evart, Nathan Woods was fourth (17:52.05), Austin Hamilton 11th (18:19.89), Josh Woods 15th (18:33.25), Alex Hamilton 32nd (19;33.94), Parker Henry 38th (19:59.52) and Jacob Quist 53rd (20:42.55).

The girls were eighth out of 11 teams. Sarah Nelson was 14th (23:36.62), while Brooke Belleville was 25th (24:27.07), Arianna Mooney 37th (25:56.27), Rose Clark, 60th (28:27.60) and Grace Green 73rd (35:17.23).

“It was a tough meet,” Mills said. “I thought the girls did well. They improved on their times this year and got some season bests. The guys are struggling to get motivated and do what they need to get it done.”

Evart had its first Highland Conference meet on Tuesday. Next Tuesday, the Wildcats are home against Reed City.
