Evart hosting area baseball games

EVART — Evart’s baseball team has been hosting doubleheaders and playing in various games during the summer to get ready for the 2017 season.

The Wildcats had a doubleheader at home June 21 and played Manton and Reed City. The game with Reed City was tied 1-1 after three innings. Evart lost to Manton 8-5.

Among Evart’s summer players is freshman Justin Buckner, who enjoyed the chance to play with high school performers.

“It helps you to get better in seeing new pitches and playing with older kids,” he said “When we get to the regular season, it helps because you had experience with older kids.”

Buckner, along with Ty Sochocki, has been among two freshmen playing on the Evart summer team.

Jake McKinstry, a former Wildcat player who graduated in 2013, was coaching the team last week.

“I’m helping out with all three sports this year,” he said. “I helped out with two last year.”

The games last week were the first for Evart’s summer baseball team.

Evart also is home for a doubleheader on Thursday.
