EVART — The Evart football team picked up a 27-12 victory over Harrison on Friday and remains undefeated.

The Wildcats built up a 20-6 lead at the half and held Harrison to six points in the second half to come away with the win.

Jacob Fortune led the Wildcats’ offense by going 15-of-20 through the air for 156 yards and three scores while adding 49 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Jamin Drake had 36 yards on five carries while Jared Pattee had seven receptions for 54 yards for a touchdown while Jacob Hopkins had six receptions for 91 yards and two scores.

“I thought our kids played with great intensity,” said Evart coach Pat Craven. “Our defense, even though they gave up 12 points played a really nice game. I was pleased by our linebacker play.”

Larry VanBuren had 13 total tackles and Robert Burge had 13 total tackles and a sack.

“Offensively, Jacob Fortune continues to throw the ball very well,” Craven said. “He’s doing a nice job for us early in the season, We look forward to that continuing. We gave him real good pass protection.

“We expected Harrison to give us a tough battle after dropping their week one to Lake City. They played hard. Our kids executed our game plan. We stopped Harrison from doing what they wanted to do.””

Evart (2-0, 0-0) next heads to Manton, 1-1, on Friday.

“They’re a spread team that wants to run the football and be uptempo and plays good defense,” Craven said. “They have another year under their offensive system. They seem to be healthy.”
