EVART — Evart’s girls track team has a new coach with Todd Scott and has entered the season with high hopes.

The Wildcats competed in the Sparta Snow Melter on March 29 at the Sparta Athletic Complex.

Also, Arianna Mooney was eighth in the 300 hurdles (1:04.65), the 4x100 relay team of Belleville, Wallace, Witbeck and VanOrder was first (54:51), the 4x200 relay foursome of Belleville, Amber Eastman, Fehrenbach and Kylie Stokes was fifth (2:05.95) Mariah Fisher was second in the shot put (26-6½), and Eastman was second (71-0), Fisher third (70-9) and VanOrder fourth (69-10) in the discus.

“Mara VanOrder will be one of our top athletes in the middle distance and sprints,”Todd Scott said. “She is a conference champion, regional champion, and an all-state athlete. She is a good leader and a fine example for the young ladies on the team. Allyssa Witbeck will be strong in the field events and is a returning conference and regional champion.

“Brooke Belleville is going to be among the best sprinters in the area. I’m also expecting big things from Macey Wallace and freshman Mariah Fisher among others.”

Scott has high hopes for the team, which resumes action April 12 at Vestaburg.

“We will only be as good as the effort we’re willing to put in,” Scott said. “I’m asking a lot out of the team, but I think we have potential to be good. We need to be balanced in all areas of track and field. We’re only going to be as strong as our weakest link and we need girls to step up in certain areas.

“Every single girl is important to the team as a whole. The key to our success will be how hard we work day in and day out in practice, when no one is watching. We have some talented young ladies but we need everyone on the team to perform well.”
