Evart girls’ softball splits with Marion

EVART — Evart defeated Marion 15-14 in Highland Conference softball action on Thursday.

Evart was down by one run in the bottom of the seventh and Natalie Burhans drove in two runs for the win.

Ashley Hopkins got the win in the circle.

“All the girls hit very well again,” Evart coach Jeff Bressler said. “I was really happy with our bats the last couple weeks. We had our struggles defensively but held well enough to come up with a win.

Marion won the nightcap 15-9.

“We had one of those innings where we just couldn’t find an out and that put us behind by eight runs,” Bressler said. “We’re still hitting well, I think we were reeling them in, but ran out of daylight in the fifth.

“We continue to improve. This is a much better team now than at the start of the season.”

Evart is at Big Rapids on Friday.
