EVART — The regular season ended for the Evart Wildcats girls basketball team last week at 6-14, which was a significant improvement from last year when the girls basketball team struggled with no wins.

Friday night, the regular season ended at McBain with an 82-49 loss.

“It was 40-28 at halftime, but I thought we played well,” Evart coach Paul Higgins said. ‘We got beat later in the transition. We got hurt on that too many times. That’s what kills us.”

Kristin Kullman had one of her top games of the season with 26 points. Her season-high has been 27 points at Farwell.

Earlier in the week on Wednesday, Evart had a make-up game at Marion and pulled off its sixth win of the season 45-29. Mara VanOrder, who had a strong game at McBain, had a top-notch performance against Marion with 18 points.

“We just kept pressing them,” Higgins said indicating the Wildcats were eventually able to get things going their way.

“We’ve been  up and down the whole season,” Kullman said on Monday. “Our last game against McBain, I think we really showed improvement.”

Evart is at Manton this week for the Class C districts. The Wildcats play Pine River at 6 p.m. in a semifinal game Wednesday. The winner advances to the title game Friday. Evart is 0-2 against the Bucks this season.

Boys districts

The Evart boys open their district Monday at McBain against Lake City. The winner plays Manton on Wednesday.  The finals are Friday, March 13.

“We beat them here by 20 and played well,” Evart Coach Kas Morgan said. “We played them up there and had some guys in and out. We’ll get them on a neutral court. It depends on our shooters.”
