EVART — Coach Josh Johnson and his Evart Wildcats are anxious to get another season off the ground.

Weather-permitting, Evart is scheduled to play at Reed City next Tuesday.

This marks the second week of formal practices for Johnson and his teams. He started out early last week with 22 girls to be divided between JV and varsity.

Johnson worked with various players during the summer in softball action.

“We’re figuring out who will be varsity players and who will be JV players,” he said.

Johnson has seven seniors on this year’s roster and is hoping that factor will bode well for his team.

‘We have quite a few returning,” he said.

Pitchers will be Chelsea Kruse and Rebekah Wirkutis.

Unlike last season, the Wildcats have to spend most of mid-March inside because of the weather.

“It’s not a real concern, but we have lots of room here,” Johnson said, referring to the Evart gymnasium. “We can get a lot of quality hitting stations done in here.”

Johnson and his players remain hopeful of being able to go outside next Tuesday and get a game in before spring break. The Highland Conference schedule will start next month.
