Evart girls fifth at cheer meet

EVART — Both Evart and Pine River competitive cheer teams competed in the Brethren Invitational on Saturday.

“We had our highest Round 1 score of the year,” Evart coach Marty Pattee said. “We had a really good day. We were fifth out of nine teams, which was kind of disappointing, but now because of how the girls did.”

Round 1 involves leadership and jumps. Round 2 is gymnastics skills and precisions. Round 3 features stunts.

“Round 3 is my favorite and it always has been and we seem to do well,” Pattee said.

Evart is at Houghton Lake this Saturday.

“After that, we’ll be getting ready for districts (Feb. 21 at Muskegon Western Michigan Christian),” Pattee said.

Evart girls were Brooklyn Elenbaas, Erin Flowers, Loraine Foster, Karly Gudding and Chasity Nichols.

Pine River had a score of 525 at Brethren and wiill be at Houghton Lake on Saturday.

“The girls did very well,” Pine River coach Emilee Crawford said. “They always compete well at Brethren since it’s a small school. Our best round by far is our Round 3. We did really well.”

Pine River cheerleaders were Carrie Coons, Mariah Curtis, Rachel DePew, Rachel Forbes, Andrea Gross, Megan Hammer, Erin Millen, Vicki Moored, Allie Peterson, Caitlyn Schepers and Sarah Zimmerman.
