EVART — It was a tight game on Thursday between Beal City and Evart in girls basketball action, with the Aggies pulling out a 55-50 Highland Conference victory.

“We came out slow in the first quarter and kind of dug ourselves in a hole,” Evart coach Paul Higgins said. “We fought back at the half and cut it down to four. They hit four threes in the fourth quarter. We got it down to four at one point in the fourth quarter but missed a couple of shots that could have cut it to two and maybe even tied the game.

“It was a competitive game from start to finish.”

Brooke Belleville scored 17 points while Mackenzie Kimball added 10.

Evart lost 58-34 to Lake City on Monday.

“They came out and put it to us from the start,” Higgins said. “We didn’t play horrible by any means. We got beat in transition. They have a couple of nice players who controlled the game for them. The second half, we played better defensively. So that was encouraging from that aspect of it.”

Evart was scheduled to be at White Cloud on Tuesday and will be at Manton on Friday in Highland Conference action.
