EVART— Evart’s girls basketball team entered the holiday break with hopes of rejuvenation and getting back on the winning path.
Coach Paul Higgins and his team will be off until Jan. 6 when they play at Beal City in Highland Conference action.
The Wildcats (1-5) started the season impressively with a narrow 42-33 loss to Farwell and a 52-44 win over Forest Area.
They’ve proceeded to fall to Chippewa Hills 52-12, McBain Northern Michigan Christian 62-25, Pine River 57-15 and on Dec. 13 to McBain 61-18.
The Wildcats will have home games with Lake City on Jan. 10 and Manton on Jan 12.
Higgins said last week he was giving his players a week off and then would resume practices after Christmas.
“I think there are a couple of games out there where we could have competed a little better,” Higgins said. “It’s matter of putting it all together. It’s still a work in progress. We’ve had some injuries. Hopefully, we’ll get healthy and come back after Christmas and put a couple of good games together.”
Sophomore McKenzie Kimball has been the team’s leading scorer.
“We haven’t done a heckuva lot scoring wise,” Higgins said.
