Evart girls defeat Montabella girls in districts
BEAL CITY — Evart improved to 8-13 with a Class C district win 27-26 at Beal City on Monday. Montabella led 8-4 after the first quarter but it was Evart 14-13 at halftime.
Montabella led 22-18 after the third quarter. Evart outscored the Mustangs 9-4 in the fourth. Cyana Dellar had eight points, Macey Wallace seven and McKenzie Kimball had six.
“We had some foul trouble early in the game but were able to fight through it,” Evart coach Paul Higgins said. “Defensively, we played solid and caused a lot of turnovers.”
The Wildcats return to Beal City on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. game against Morley Stanwood.
Evart closed out the regular season on Friday at Marion and won 50-28. Sarah Nelson had 11 points. Mckenzie Kimball had nine points, Kelci Elder had seven and Hannah Wetters had six.
Evart had quarter leads of 12-5, 30-13 and 40-18.
“I thought we came out sluggish in the first quarter,” Higgins said. “In the second quarter, we were able to build a nice lead. I gave everybody a lot of minutes to finish off the regular season.”
