LAKEVIEW — Evart’s girls softball team defeated Lakeview 13-2 in the first game of the Lakeview tournament on Saturday.

Deanna Conklin had three singles while Abby Apsey, Livia Hopkins, Sabrina McGinnis, Felicia Nelson, McKenzie Kimball and Kylee Dorn also had hits.

Carlie Gostlin was the winning pitcher and had five strikeouts.

In the championship game, Kimball singled and scored her team’s only run in an 8-1 loss to Belding. Ava Rutlewski was the losing pitcher and had three strikeouts.

“I was really proud of them,” Evart coach Amanda Brown said. “We had really good defense. I don’t think we had any errors in the two games we played. That’s pretty exciting. We ran bases well and we hit the ball well. It was a nice day. It wasn’t snowing or raining so we can’t complain.”

In a doubleheader against Lake City on May 7, Evart won the first game 11-5 over the Trojans. Gostlin was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts. Gostlin had three singles, Dorn had two singles and a double, Skylor Baumgardner had a single and a double, Hopkins had a single and triple and Conklin had a single and triple.

Evart lost 15-9 in the second game. Hopkins had a double, Baumgardner had two singles and Kimball had two singles and a double.

“We had seven runs in one inning which was pretty exciting,” Brown said.

Evart is home against Big Rapids on Wednesday.
