EVART — Evart’s football program is set to begin its official practice season Monday with the annual midnight kickoff.

“Last week, we did lifting Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings,” football coach Pat Craven said.

The same schedule is in effect for this week.

On Sunday at 7 p.m., Evart football coaches will have a parents’ meeting, plus a players gathering and equipment handout. The first practice is at midnight for 90 minutes. The midnight kickoff has been a tradition in recent years for Evart.

“Most of the kids spend the night in the gym,” Craven said.

The midnight practice is at the game field to utilize the lights. Practices continue during the week 4-9 p.m. Monday’s practice won’t last as long because of the midnight session.

Craven said he’s not sure of the exact numbers he’ll get to the practices.

“We’re hoping to have better numbers than last year,” he said. “At this point in time, we’re still trying to communicate with all the kids.”

The season opens at White Cloud on Aug. 28.
