FREMONT — Evart opened its football season with a 30-26 win on Friday over Fremont.

Down 22-26 with just over one minute remaining, Carter Pritchard connected with receiver Billy Conklin for the game-winning screen pass.

The Wildcats were up 22-10 at halftime before the Packers scored two touchdowns to take the lead.

“We persevered,” head coach Pat Craven said. “We had a two-minute drill to get the comeback win. We had over 100 yards in penalties tonight. We have a lot of work left to get done.

“I was really pleased with our linebacker play. Conklin and Justin O’Dell did a great job. Pritchard really stood tall in the pocket and threw well tonight.”

Evart hosts Holton on Thursday in non-league action.
