Evart football team drops first game to McBain

EVART — Evart (2-1) dropped its Highland Conference football opener to McBain on Friday 32-14.

McBain led 18-6 at halftime.

Cody Pritchard had a 5-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for Evart. He scored on a 73-yard hook-and-ladder pass play in the second half. Trevin Ladd passed to Layne Nadig who then pitched the ball to Pritchard, who ran for the touchdown.

Pritchard rushed for 101 yards. Danny Griffin caught three passes for 32 yards. Ladd was 7-of-17 for 123 yards.

“McBain really overpowered us,” Evart coach Pat Craven said. “They kind of punched us in the mouth early and we weren’t able to recover. We had a couple of opportunities and couldn’t do much with it. We kind of got pushed around for a majority of the night.”

Josh Dorn had seven solo tackles and four assists while Karsten Allen had seven solos and seven assists and Nadig had a fumble recovery.

Evart is at Manton on Friday.

“We have to watch some film and work to get better,” Craven said. “We can’t feel sorry for ourselves. We have to push ourselves to improve from (Friday night) and get ready for Manton next week.”
