Evart falls to Montabella, Harrison

EVART — Evart’s girls volleyball team fell to Montabella and Harrison in nonleague action last week

On Thursday, Evart (0-5) lost to Montabella (2-3) 25-11, 25-16, 25-16.

Evart fell behind 19-5 in the first game and 17-6 in the second. In the third, the Wildcats had a 15-11 lead, but couldn’t hold on. Montabella cut it to 24-17 and then scored nine straight points to take the win.

Kendra Stockwell led Montabella with nine aces and six kills.

On Sept. 6, the Wildcats fell to Harrison 3-0.

Evart lost the first game 25-23. The Wildcats got three straight points on the serve from Natalie O’Dell in the second game. An ace from Danielle Conklin gave Evart a 22-19 lead. Harrison came back for a 24-23 lead. Evart avoided match point, but with the score 24-24, Harrison scored the next two points for a 26-24 win to take a 2-0 games lead.

After two straight games, the Wildcats struggled in the third. Elyssa LeVaser had 10 straight points, including two aces, for an 18-4 lead. The Hornets won the set 25-6 to end the match.

Had the Wildcats snuck out a win in games one or two, “it might have been a different match,” Evart coach Katie Nostrant said. “I had some player issues, but when we got those resolved, then they came around.”

Among the Wildcats seeing action on the court were Danni Beasley, Danielle Conklin, Cyana Dellar, Kaylee Ladd, Natalie O’Dell, Savanah Ross, Sierra Barnett, Livia Hopkins and McKenzie Kimball.

Evart is at the Crossroads Invitational on Saturday and plays at Beal City on Sept. 20.
