EVART — Both games were dramatic but the outcomes were sweet for the Evart Wildcats in 12-11 and 4-3 Highland Conference baseball victories over McBain on May 16.

The second game was tied 3-3 going into the top of the sixth and final inning. Carter Pritchard walked, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Jericho VanScoyoc had a base hit but an error led to Pritchard crossing the plate.

“It was exciting,” Evart coach Josh Johnson said. “We still are sloppy at times. I thought in the second game, we were tight for Layne (Nadig, starting pitcher) and made some plays behind him. It’s getting there. It was nice to get a couple of conference games, for sure.”

Nadig, the winning pitcher, got the Ramblers out without a run in the bottom of the sixth to preserve the win.

Nadig threw 67 pitches. He fanned five batters and allowed three runs. He allowed five hits.

At the plate for the Wildcats, Josh Dorn had a double and single, Kameron Martin a single and two RBIs and Karsten Allen a double.

“I felt that we were getting tougher and a little grittier,” Johnson said. “I’m really happy with it being senior night and the seniors contributed. All three played well.”

Wil Weinberg was the winning pitcher in the first game. VanScoyoc and Dorn both had two singles and VanScoyoc had two RBIs. Garrett Johnson had three singles and four RBIs.

Allen and Nadig both added singles. Scott Whitman had an RBI.

Tuesday marked Evart’s final home game of the season.

Evart (12-14, 8-2) played Tuesday at Pine River for league action earlier this week.
