Evart end looking forward to league test at McBain

EVART — Josh Decator starts at end on both offense and defense for the Evart Wildcats and admits that Saturday’s 33-27 homecoming win for the Wildcats over Pine River “was a little tough for the first half. We had people give us some spirit at halftime. It was a turnaround after that.”

Getting some “good plays” to spur the team’s confidence was the key in the comeback, Decator noted. “It was just a bad first half. It happens.”

Coaches sometimes fear their team’s ability to focus during homecoming week with the various activities going on week long.

Decator has been happy with his senior season.

“Mainly I keep the (backs) from going outside,” he said. “On offense, I’m there to block or go for a pass.”

Evart is 5-1 overall and one win away from qualifying for the playoffs. They have two Highland Conference games coming up at McBain this Friday and home Oct. 18 with Lake City.

“It will take a lot of practice and a lot of preparation,” Decator said.

The regular season ends Oct. 25 at home against Montabella in non-league play.
