EVART — Kevin Mills has had several successful cross country teams in his years as Evart coach and is expecting the same this year.

The 2016 squad won the first two Highland Conference meets and went to the state finals, along with two members of the girls team.

But the team graduated two key seniors.

“Josh Woods was a great leader and hard worker, acting as an assistant coach when needed,” Mills recalled. “He was an All State athlete and scholar. Brooke Belleville was great athlete that ran a 60-second PR at the regional meet to finish seventh.”

Senior Sarah Nelson returns for the girls team and qualified for the state meet.

Mills is looking for this boys team to contend for the conference title and score better than eighth at state. He again wants to see two girls make it to the state meet in November.

“A strong team bond,” will be an asset, Mills said. “We want to be peaking at the end of the season.”

Mills hopes to see the boys team excel with Austin and A

lex Hamilton, plus Nathan Woods.

“I will put Manton as the conference champions, but will give our best to make Evart No. 1,” Mills said.

The Wildcats started practices on Aug. 9 and were slated to start the season Tuesday at Chippewa Hills.
