EVART — Evart's boys cross country team edged McBain 42-44 for first-place honors in the Highland Conference jamboree on Oct. 4.

Josh Woods was first for Evart (16:51.59) while Nathan Woods was third (17:11.6), Austin Hamiton sixth (17:32.20), Alex Hamilton eighth (17:51.12), Jacob Quist 24th (0:14.55), Tanner Ryan 25th (10:33.33) and Parker Henry 26th (19:43.47).

“I was ecstatic,” Evart coach Kevin Mills said. “The guys on the guys side, everyone did their job, and we snuck out a win there. I was extremely happy and proud of the hard work they put in.”

The Pine River boys were eighth.

For the girls, Pine River was fourth and Evart sixth.

For the Pine River boys, Mark Geer was 21st (19:01.09), Sam Pentces 38th (21:16.57), Dominick Cousino 53rd (22:4.93), Austin LaGrance 66th (24:04.21) and Kaden Darrow 67th (24:21.38).

For the Pine River girls. Olivia Thompson was 12th (22:11.22), Kelsi Charles 14th (22:18.31), Anselma Barnett 22nd (22:54.18), Holly Bailor 23rd (22:55.80) and Kenzie Ruppert 38th (26:38.29)

Sara Nelson led the Evart girls in 10th (22:02.80), while Brooke Belleville was 13th (22:13.76) Arianna Mooney 29th (24.20.79), Rose Clark 48th (28:01.50) and Grace Green 52nd (30:35.39).

“We have a couple of girls in an all-conference position,” Mills said. “There was a lot of personal bests at that meet. Overall, it was an awesome experience for us.”

Evart runs at Manistee on Thursday.
