EVART — Evart’s competitive cheer team took home a second-place trophy in its division on Saturday at the Houghton Lake Invitational.

“We had a pretty good day,” Evart coach Marty Pattee said.

Muskegon West Michigan Christian took first place.

Round 3 continues to be a strong one for the Wildcats. It’s the round that features mounts.

“That seems to be the round that puts us over the top,” Pattee said. “The girls keep improving their score. It’s the big game-changer so to speak.”

Evart is at districts on Saturday at Holton for Division 4. There will be 12 teams in the district and the top four advance to regionals on Feb. 25.

“Right now, we’re rated, of the 12, if you go by the scores of teams, fifth,” Pattee said. “It depends on how well everyone performs that day and if it’s enough to get us over the hurdle.”

Evart cheerleaders are Macey Rich, Dana Vore, Kymberley Morrone, Hannah Moore, Zandrea Geranen, Jordyn Gillis and Morgan Gallinger.
