EVART — When he took over as head coach for the Evart boys basketball team to open the 2011-12 season, Kris Morgan only had three weeks before the actual season would tip off.

That’s why he appreciated the summer of 2012 since it gave him more of chance to work with his team.

The same holds true this summer

This week, the Wildcats have practices Monday through Thursday. They had a scrimmage at Farwell last week and played that school, plus Coleman. They also played at a camp hosted by Chippewa Hills with several schools attending.

Morgan indicated his practice schedule would mostly be done this month.

“I might do open gyms and individual stuff through July,” Morgan said. “Coaches can spend 15 days with players during the offseason.

Morgan said JV coach Josh Johnston has also had his team involved.

Morgan is working on fundamentals and refreshing the offense, plus some tweaks on offense and defense. The players he will have this summer are mainly those on the 2013-14 roster.

“This is officially my second summer,” he said. “It’s very nice.”
