EVART — It was a Fun Day for the Evart Wildcats on Saturday in the Houghton Lake Scholar Competitive Cheer Meet.

Coach Marty Pattee’s team took first among six schools in Division 4.

“The third round, like I thought, that pulled us through,” Pattee said.

“I was actually proud of the girls,” Pattee said. “We have no seniors, they are young. It’s very nerve racking to go at it this early in the season, but they did a great job. It was truly a team effort.”

Evart is off until next month when it will be at Grandville Jan. 5, Cedar Springs, Jan. 12, Gaylord Jan. 19 and Chippewa Hills Jan 26 for invitationals. The Evart Invitational is Jan. 30.

Evart competitors on Saturday were juniors Taylor Hoffmeyer, Ashley French, Megan Green, Kelly Lloyd, Kendra and Virginia Kunitzer and freshman Shantelle Nicoletta, Loraine Foster and Taylor Rushing.

“They did such an amazing job,” Pattee said.

Pine River was also at the meet and finished sixth in Division 4.

“Our best round was round 2,” said Pine River coach Tiffany Lindquist. “Our third round, we only had half of it finished, so we only did half of it.”

Pine River is at Brethren Jan. 12.
