EVART — The Michigan Competitive Cheer Coaches Association recently announced its academic all-state teams and individuals, and Evart varsity cheer team coach Marty Pattee noted that her girls had representation in both categories.

“In order to be selected as an academic all-state team, a team must have a grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for the entire team,” Pattee said. “Evart varsity had a team grade point average of 3.36. The team earned academic all-state honorable mention honors. Evart varsity cheer was in the top 10, ranking sixth out of all Division 4 teams across the entire state.”

Pattee added that Evart also had two girls selected as Academic All-State Individuals.

“In order to earn this honor, an athlete must have a 3.8 grade point average or higher,” she said.

McKayla Green made the academic all-state team with a GPA of 3.86. Kamryn Struble also made the team with a GPA of 4.0.

Members of the Evart varsity cheer team were seniors Megan Green, Ashley French, and Kelly Lloyd; juniors McKayla Green, Sienna Park, Raigan Clark, Jorie Pedery, Karley Gudding, and Virginia Kunitzer; sophomore Shantelle Nicoletta; and freshman Kamryn Stuble and Chasity Nichols.

Pattee’s assistant coach is Amber Pattee.  Evart also received these honors last year.

During the summer, Pattee said her program is offering open workshops featuring gymnastics and perhaps a clinic or two. One workshop is scheduled for this Thursday evening at the high school.

“It’s whatever they need to improve on,” Pattee said.
