EVART — Evart’s cheerleading squad is off for the holiday break after a strong season debut on Dec. 14 when it placed third at the Houghton Lake

Invitational.

Seniors like Megan Green and Kelly Lloyd are hoping to pick up the momentum in a strong way when the season resumes Jan. 4 at Grandville.

Green is in her eighth season overall of cheering and fourth in high school. Her position is base. Practices started in mid-November. Stunts in round 3 are her team’s strongest point.

“As long as everyone is working cohesively, the team can have success, Green indicated. She didn’t compete in the season debut because of an injured finger but has still been working with the team on Round 1.

“We are pushing for team backhand springs in round two. We’ll get them,” Green said.

Lloyd is in her fourth year on the team, which seems to have more experience compared to past seasons. She’s at base this season. It’s her only sport, but a unique one.

“We do more than one round,” she said. “We have to learn a lot and remember a lot and focus on more than one thing.”

Green is upbeat about the team’s potential.

“I think we’ll do really good this year,” she said, adding that the competition will be strong throughout the season. “There’s a lot of good schools.”

Key meets coming up for Evart are invitationals at Cedar Springs Jan. 11, Marion Jan. 15, Chippewa Hills Jan. 18, Marion Jan. 25 and at home Jan. 29.
