EVART -- Jake Mckinstry, a 5-9, 190-pound offensive senior for the Evart Wildcats, will be anchoring an offensive line that hopes to pave the way this season for a solid running attack.
I think we underachieved (from last year) on what our goals were,” Mckinstry said. “We want to fulfill them this year.”
It was a very busy offseason for Mckinstry and his teammates.
“We lifted during the winter and during the summer,” he said. “We lifted two times a week. We had camp the first week of summer.”
The Wildcats open the season at home aon Aug. 24 in nonleague action.
“We want to compete for a (Highland) Conference championship and make it to the playoffs,” Mckinstry said. “We have to work hard and have everyone doing their job.”
As a center, Mckinstry is looking at sustaining his blocks and not missing a snap.
He’ll be focusing on offense and probably won’t play defense.
To win the league “we’ll definitely have to beat Beal and McBain,” he said. “Our defense has a lot of returners. It will be better than it was last year.”
