File photoEVART – The father and son combination of Todd and Santana Scott are taking care of the coaching duties for the Evart track and field team this season.
Todd is coaching the boys while Santana, a former, Evart cross country state champion, is coaching the girls.
Evart had some major highlights a year ago. Cannan Morgan was All-State in the high jump while the boys team also had a winning record. The girls had two All-State athletes.
Santana Scott said brothers Cannan (senior) and Aceyn (freshman) Morgan for the high jump could both finish all state. The sprint relay teams Dakobe White (10th grade) , Marcel White (11th grade), Bryant Calderon (12th grade) and Camden Darling (11th grade) could also have state final appearances, Scott said.
“Newcomer freshman Emma Dyer will be a competitive athlete in the sprints,” Scott said. “Junior McKenzy McKay could also have a state finals appearance in the throwing events.’
Scott expects the boys to continue and increase their team winning record and for the girls to send athletes to state finals and be competitive in the Highland Conference.
He said the strength for the boys will be the sprint relay and throwing events and throwing events and mid-distances for the girls
The boys team needs to work on “developing athletes in all events to create a meet winning team,” Scott said, adding the girls need to focus on “building the team in all aspects.”
