EVART -- The Evart Wildcats won their third straight boys basketball game on Friday with a 49-37 Highland Conference victory over McBain Northern Michigan Christian.

Evart is 2-3 in the Highland Conference and 3-2 overall.

"We jumped out 15-0 but couldn't maintain that early hot start," Evart coach Kris Morgan said.

"They chipped away and ended up tied at 22 at the half. We had a hard time containing their No. 23, Trevein Winkle. He had 18 of their 22 halftime points and ended up with 27 points.

"We took the lead in the third with some big shots from (Justin) Buckner and some hustle plays from Tony Hartsock and Donovan Duncan. (Cameron) Brasington struggled with his shot but grinded through."

Hayden Simmer led Evart with 15 points while Donavin Reagan had 11 and Hartsock eight.

"We hit our free throws at the end and were able to get some stops on the defensive end," Morgan said.

Evart is at Roscommon on Thursday.
