Evart boys tie for 16th at state track final

GRAND RAPIDS — Evart’s boys track team tied for 16th with 11 points in Saturday’s Division 3 state final meet at Grand Rapids’ Houseman Field.

Kyle Stokes was seventh in the 200 meters (23.23) while Josh Woods was sixth in the 1,600 meters (4:33.08) with a personal record. Austin Hamilton was eighth in the 3,200-meter run (10:07.4).

The 400-meter relay team of Cody Pritchard, Scott Martin, Kyle Stokes and Danny Griffin was fourth in 44.62.

The 800 relay team of Pritchard, Martin, Stokes and Griffin was sixth in 1:33.8. Martin was seventh in the high jump (6-1).

“We were really pleased with the number of kids we had who made all-state,” Evart boys coach Dennis Peacock said. “We had kids all-state in seven different events. That speaks to a pretty good team. We thought we might place higher in some of those events. We were pleased. It was neat to see. It speaks for a good team.”

Key Evart graduates include Danny Griffin, Cody Pritchard and Josh Woods, in various events, including the relays.

“That will make a big impact,” Peacock said. “We have some pretty good kids back. We have a good sophomore class. We think the kids will be very good this year.”

No other area athletes placed.

In the Division 3 meet at Comstock Park, Pine River’s Elijah Lewis was sixth in the 400-meter dash in 50.74 seconds and scored his team’s only three points.
