Evart boys fall to Clare
EVART — Clare’s boys basketball team defeated Evart 73-43 on Monday in non-league action.
The Pioneers scored 30 points in the first quarter on 12-of-13 shooting. They made 5-of-5 3-pointers in the opening quarter.
“We were fighting from the get-go,” Evart coach Kris Morgan said. “They have a good team.”
Danny Griffin led the Wildcats with 17 points, while Robbie Tapling chipped in 10 points.
Evart drops to 4-13 and hosts Marion on Thursday. The Wildcats won the earlier matchup between the two teams.
Last week, the Wildcats played Tuesday at Manton and Friday at Lake City and lost both. They lost 80-56 to Manton.
“The Manton game we played pretty well,” Morgan said. “Everybody was eligible and healthy. They play well in that gym and we couldn’t quite get over that hump.”
Lake City won 54-43.
“That was our first scoreless quarter of the year,” Morgan said. “We went the whole second quarter without scoring.”
Griffin had 28 points, including 25 in the second half. Noah Drake was the second leading scorer with five points only.
“Lake City sat in a 2-3 zone and we were getting our shots, but couldn’t hit them,” Morgan said. “When a team sticks to the zone like that, we have to hit our shot.”
