EVART — Evart (4-6, 3-5) prevailed in a narrow 51-50 win on Thursday over McBain NMC (3-8,2-5),

“We were up by 15 and had a pretty good start,” Evart coach Kris Morgan said. “It was 35-20 at half.  We were playing pretty good ball.”

Evart then came out in the third quarter and went cold on its shooting.

“With seconds to go, we only scored one basket in the quarter,” Morgan said. “They cut the lead and we were only up by six. We still struggled through the fourth and later were only up by two.

They fouled us and Layne (Nadig) hit a free throw. Then they came down, missed a 3-pointer, got the rebound and put it back up. They didn’t have any timeouts.

The Wildcats were able to run out the clock.

Danny Griffin had 18 points for Evart. Carter Pritchard had 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter that helped his team keep the lead. Cody Pritchard had 12 rebounds.

“We played good job on defense on their top player,” Morgan said.

Evart lost 81-41 to undefeated McBain on Jan. 31.

“McBain really played some good ball,” Morgan said. “Playing up there, they played even better.”

Evart plays Beal City at home on Friday.
