EVART — Seniors Danny Griffin and Layne Nadig, of Evart, have been named to the Highland Conference all-league boys basketball team, while senior teammates Trevin Ladd earned honorable mention honors.

Griffin averaged 18 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. He scored his 1,000th career varsity point this year and was a three-year starter.

Nadig averaged 7.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game.

Evart had a 9-12 season.

“We had a lot of close games,” Evart coach Kris Morgan said. “All three games with Pine River were very close. We were on the winning end and losing end of some of those. We were in a lot of close games. I thought we played pretty well. But we were undersized again all year.”

The Wildcats had two one-point wins over McBain Northern Michigan Christian. Another highlight was defeating nonleague rival Reed City.

Evart graduates a three-year player with Griffin. Ladd, Nadig and Cody Pritchard were also key seniors.

Next year, “I’ll be a little young and inexperienced,” Morgan said. “Carter Pritchard, we look for him to make a pretty good step. He was just a sophomore. We have a lot of guys coming off the bench like Karsten Allen and Nick Sylvester.”
