Evart boys 2nd, girls 3rd in track and field regionals

BRECKENRIDGE — Evart’s boys track team came away from the Division 4 regionals at Breckenridge on Saturday with a second-place finish.

Evart posted 80 1/2 points while Saginaw Michigan Lutheran had 118. Beal City was third with 77. Evart’s girls team was third with 68 ½ points. Beal City was first with 121 while Montabella had 88 ½.

“We were pleased with that,” Evart coach Ken Willems said. “It was a solid team effort all the way up and down the line.”

For Evart, Danny Griffin was second (52.53) and Trevin Ladd sixth (54.84) in the 400. Ben Randall was sixth in the 800 meters (2:13.75) Santana Scott was third (4:36.19), Josh Woods fourth (4:41.63) in the 1,600 meters, Scott was second in the 3,200 meters (10:15.51), Micah Wetters fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (17.68), Joe Eastman was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (45.87), the 400 relay team of Ladd, Griffin, Eastman and Dillon Danley were fourth (1:36.44); Ladd, Eastman, Griffin and Randall were third in the 4x400 relay (3:45.86), the 4x800 relay of Griffin, Wood, Scott and Randall was second (8:39.26), Zach Parshall was third in the high jump (6-1) and Cody Pritchard was fourth in the long jump (19-0).

For the Evart girls, Mara VanOrder won the 200 meters (27.58) and the 400 meters (1:01.10), Tabby Turley won the 100-meter hurdles (16.50), Brooke Belleville was third in the 100-meter dash (13.93), the foursome of Tina Fournier, Tabby Turley, Mara VanOrder and Allyssa VanOrder (53:18), Witbek was fourth in the high jump (4-9) and fourth in the long jump (14-2 ½).

“There were a few disappointments here and there,” Willems said. “There were a lot of really good things too.”

The MITCA state finals are this Saturday. The MHSAA finals are May 30 at Hudsonville.
