EVART — The Evart 12U baseball team took first in the inaugural Logging Days tournament in Evart earlier this month.

Evart defeated Sanford 7-4 in the title game. The tournament followed a round robin format.

The winners defeated Midland Southtown 14-1 in the first game. Pierce Johnson had three hits, Danny Witbeck, Reese Ransom and Justin O’Dell each had two hits and Kinkade DuBreuil and Haidyn Simmer each scored two runs. Danny Witbeck, Pierce Johnson and Reese Ransom pitched two innings apiece.

Evart then defeated Sanford 7-4. Evart had a six-run lead in the first inning. Nate Sochocki had two doubles while Justin O’Dell contributed hits and added two runs. Witbeck, Johnson and Ransom saw two innings of work apiece.

“Levi Spears had a solid game defensively in the outfield,” Evart coach Mark Sochocki said.

Sanford returned to the championship game against Evart, but the hosts secured another 7-4 win.

Nate Sochocki belted a home run in the first. Sochocki had two hits while Witbeck had two hits and two RBIs, Pierce Johnson had two RBIs, while Sebastian Calderone and Darren Goslin each had hits and scored. Witbeck, Johnson, Reese Ransom and Goslin pitched an inning in relief.
