EVART — From beginning to end, it was Evart’s night.

The Wildcats pulled out 5-0 and 11-3 victories over visiting Pine River to end the Highland Conference baseball season for both teams on Friday.

Evart’s Wil Weinberg went the distance in the first game, allowing no runs on four hits and striking out eight.

Josh Dorn had two hits while Jericho VanScoyoc, Billy Conklin, Justin O’Dell, Weinberg, Garrett Johnson and Donovin Regan had one hit apiece.

Luke Hill was the losing pitcher for Pine River. Jake Roberts had two hits and Andrew Park had a triple.

Evart is 15-10 overall and 9-3 in the Highland for second place behind Beal City.

Pine River ends the Highland season at 6-6 and is 17-8 overall.

Danny Witbeck was the winning pitcher in the second game, striking out nine and walking one. Parker Henry pitched in relief.

Witbeck, Conklin and Dorn had two hits apiece. Dorn had a solo homer. O’Dell, Weinberg and Reagan had one hit apiece.

“We have not won two games from Pine River in a long time. And it feels pretty good to get two from those guys,” Evart coach Josh Johnson said. “Will Weinberg and Danny pitched outstanding. Pretty much up and down the lineup, we’re getting production.”

Park was the losing pitcher for the Bucks. Hunter Poe pitched in relief. Lane Ruppert, Jake Johnson and Caleb Bowman had hits for Pine River.

“We didn’t come to play,” Pine River coach Shawn Ruppert said.. “You get to the end of the season and you either play hard like they did or go through the motions like we did. We definitely went through the motions.”

Both teams had predistrict games on Tuesday.
